Some blogs of notice

Today I was supposed to study for my upcoming exam, but for some reason I couldn't get myself started. Instead I've been spending some time in the blogsphere. And so I've got a few blogs that I'd like to recommend.

The first one is called Global Voices. It is actually not a single blog, but a collection of many different blogs from around the world, with a focus on non-western countries. The cool thing is that it uses labels, so that you could select any one country or theme, and get a lists of all the posts concerning what you are interested in. So, if you are interested in international issues, and want to listen to voices from around the world, this is the place to look.

For those of you who liked to follow my Uganda blog, the story now continues. I myself have returned to Norway, but this year's Act Now students have now arrived in Mbale. Check out Eivind's and Thomas's blogs from CRO Mbale.

Speaking of Uganda, I would like to recommend a blog called On My Way to Africa. It belongs to a girl called Lara whom I met briefly in Kampala the day before I went back to Norway. A couple of months later I stumbled across her blog. She is not in Uganda anymore, so the blog is now dead, but it is well written and worth reading. I can very much identify with a lot of what she is writing.

For a live Uganda blog, I would like to recommend the blog of Pernille, a Danish woman working for an NGO called Mellomfolkeligt Samvirke. She blogs in English and Danish.

And last, but not least, my sister in Kenya has finally updated her blog.

Hmmm. Lots of Uganda-related stuff here. Looks like someone's got the itch to travel again...

Lecture in How to Travel Without Going Broke:

1. Find a place not too far from home. (Yes, you may have to wait a while to go to Uganda, but there ARE other nice places in the world!)

2. Find a friend who lives there and whose house you may crash in. (Easy said and done!)

3. Go to a website to find cheap airline tickets (norwegian.no recommended over scandinavian.net). Book.

4. If possible: let your friend know at least one day in advance that you are coming. (Not a formal requirement though.)

5. Go. Have fun. Be inspired. Get new dreams. And know that your ultimate destination will eventually be affordable.
